No More Puppies

We said good buy to our Light Blue puppy. It was sad but I know he is going to a great home and will have lots of fun with his new family!

Here he is getting ready to leave for the airport.

We also said good buy to our Orange puppy just tonight!
She is going to a wonderful family locally which is great! We are hopping to plan some puppy play dates in the future. I totally forgot to get a picture but hope the family will send me one once she is settled.
It was nice to have their family come over and see Crombie and Nessie and get to play with them and know their temperament and how they interact with people. It was also really great to see them play with the puppy.

We are very sad to finally have all our puppies sold but we really do love all the families they have gone too.
We are really going to miss them!

Puppies 11 Weeks!

Our last two puppies are now 11 weeks!
We sold our last male! He will be leaving for his new home in Connecticut this week!
So we just have our little girl Miss Orange left.

Here is Mr. Light Blue just after getting a bath

He really has one of the whitest coats I have seen on the puppies. Usually they can have a buff color or yellow ting when they are puppies but he is so white. I could always tell which one he was because of his coat.

Miss Orange is so much fun!
She loves to run around the yard and we got some great action shots of her:)

Her ears are so cute in this one

I love how you can see the bottom of her paws. They are sooo big!

She's about to take off:)

I love her smile. You can tell she is having so much fun!

She is such a cutie!

Great Komondor Litirature

I have recently come across two great resources on Komondorok. I did a lot of research on the Internet about Komondorok and their is some great information out their but by far these are some of the best reading you can find about the breed.

The first is a book called Komondor, of course:) A Kennel Club Book written by Joy C. Levy

This is a fantastic book for new owners of a Komondor or even if you have had them for a few years like myself. I really wish I had found this book back when we first got ours. It is full of great information and history about the breed along with awesome training information. I can't say enough about how great this book is for any Komondor owner. It really encompasses everything you will need to know in order to take care of your Komondor from grooming to health care. It also does a great job covering the lifespan of your dog and what to expect from the time they are a puppy to their senior years.

I was able to find it on Amazon for around $28 bucks.

The next is the Komondor Club of America Breed Magazine called Komondor Komments.

You can go to their site here and print off the application. Fill it out and mail it into the Club Treasure Sherry. I have gotten to know Sherry a little over the last few weeks and she is amazing with all of her knowledge of the breed and willingness to share it. The subscription is $30 for the year and you get one quarterly. Sherry was telling me that in the last magazine it had great tips on grooming.

If anyone has found other great books about Komondor that has helped them feel free to share!

The next few are of the Orange little girl. She needed a bath the other day and she and Zander had a lot of fun running around the kitchen:)
They may not be in great focus but it was hard getting these two while on the move

Sorry for the blue tint the settings were off a bit

Next are some action shots
This is what I see every time I go outside with the puppies they run right up to you:)

These are the sweetest puppies ever! They are so cute and love to play and be cuddled.

Introducing Your Puppy to His New Home

I ment to post this sooner but things got crazy with shipping all the puppies. This may still be helpful.

When you get your little guy home for the first time their is a lot of excitement. Usually you have been waiting weeks to take your puppy home and it is finally the day! Their are just a few things you will want to be mindful of. This is a new place with new people to him so he may be shy or anxious. He has never been away from his mom and litter mates before so this is all new to him. Try not to overexcite him at first and give him a chance to get to know his new home.

I recommend giving him a potty break when you first get home then take him into the house. You will want to give him a tour and show him around. Take him to his kennel and were he will be eating. Give him a chance to relax a bit. Potty training starts right away so during this whole process keep an eye out for signes he may need to go.

We had to ship both of our dogs so when we got them home they needed a bath. This was a great opportunity for us to get to know our puppy and for them to relax and enjoy being pampered. They loved being washed and getting dried and spending some special time with us.

Puppies are very curious and explore with their mouths so be very watchful that they don't chew on anything that could be dangerous like cords and such.  You really do need to go through and puppy prof your house just like with small children. Make sure he can't pull anything down on top of him or get into things that are dangerous etc. You can even start with some of the rules you will have for your puppy. Such as using the word Off when he gets on something you don't want him to.

Most importantly enjoy the day and getting to know one another!

Good Buy Puppies

We said good buy to most of our puppies over the last few days. It was much harder than I ever expected and I even teared up a few times during the week just thinking about them going. They all made it to their new homes safe and sound.

This is a pic of our two little girls that went to the same family. Here they are all ready to be shipped to their new home.

This is the great family locally picking up their puppy. It was so nice to meet with them and see their cute family. This puppy will have lots of fun!

I totally spaced grabbing my camera the other morning when we sent off our two other puppies at the airport. So I did not get any of them as they got ready to leave:(

The night before the two girl puppies left we wanted Zander to get a chance to be with all the puppies one last time. He really loves them and asks all the time to see the puppies. He always points to were we keep the puppy food and tells us that is were it is:)

About 5 sec after we took the pic above the puppies tackled Zander. Dad was close by to save him:)
It really has been so fun as the puppies are getting older and watching them chase each other and Zander around.
We will miss them soooo much!

We still have two puppies left from sales that fell through. We have the
Light Blue puppy and the Orange puppy. It's been nice to still have them so it takes the edge off of loosing them all at once. The puppies also love the attention they now get all to themselves:)

Puppies 7 1/2 weeks

The puppies are having so much fun playing this week.
Crombie really wanted in on the camera attention during this video.
The puppies were every wear so sorry for the shaky camera

We had a very nice woman come over to get her Komondor fix as she liked to put it:)
She had two Komondorok in the past and really just wanted to come and play with the puppies and our Crombie and Nessie. She really misses hers.
It was so nice talking with her about her own Komondor. We both just feel these are a special kind of dog and unlike any others we have owned or been around.

We have a busy week ahead. We will be getting all the shipping crates prepped and ready for Monday along with all the packet info going home with each puppy. We also need to take four back into the vet in order to get their health certificates required by the airlines for shipping.

I am excited for next Monday when our babies get to go to their new homes.
I know as we waited for our puppies it seemed to take forever and when the day finally came it was like Christmas. We were so excited to get to know our puppy and cuddle and play. It will be such a fun day for their new families and for the puppies.

Prepairing your home for your Puppy

Now that our little guys are close to going home to their new families it is time for those families or anyone bringing home a new puppy to think about what they need to do in order to prepair for the new arrival.

The biggest purchase and probably the most important is the kind of kennel you will provide for your puppy. If you can, look around for the best price, because you will need a larger kennel they are not cheep. Even though your puppy is not large yet you will not want to get a small kennel. This will be his new room and a place you want him to enjoy and feel safe and something he can grow with. For Abe and I we purchased a large wire mesh kennel that came with a divider. We used the divider while our dogs were small so they did not have a huge kennel all to themselves and be more likely to make messes. As our pups got bigger then we were able to just remove the divider to the full size of the kennel. We also put in old blankets and towels so they had a comfortable place to rest. One great suggestion we got was to let your puppy eat in the kennel when they are first introduced to it so they become familiar with the new space. You will want to leave the door open so he knows he can come and go. Also as a note even though we purchased a large kennel, it worked great for awhile, but now that our dogs are full grown it is on the small side to were they can not stand up all the way without hitting their head on the top. So it may be better to go with an extra large size unless you want to purchase another kennel down the road.

Next make sure you have a vet in place to take your new puppy to. You will want to get your puppy checked out soon after you get him home. They will require further puppy vaccinations and that is a good time to get them established with their vet.

You will also need to get them a dog dish for their food and water. We really like the stainless steal dishes, they hold up great. Just be prepared for lots of water on your floor, it gets everywhere. Crombie as he has gotten older likes to take his food out of his dish and then lay down and eat it or lay down and eat out of his bowl. We have also gotten holders for their dishes so the food sits up higher and they do not have to bend down as much.

Make sure you have a collar and leash for your puppy and tags. It is also highly recommended to get them a microchip. You can register this with the AKC and your vet so if your puppy or grown dog get out of the yard or lost they can get back home to you. Most vet offices will do this or you can check with your local Humain Society. Our Humain Society of Utah was the cheapest and charged $25.

Puppies also love to chew so you will want to provide him with plenty of toys for entertainment. Most toys are great but you will want to make sure they don't have anything the puppy can chew off such as buttons etc. were they could possibly choke. Be careful of toys with stuffing. Crombie loved to de-fluff all those toys or took it as a challenge to get the squeaker out which can also be a chocking hazard. I have read a few times that plastic milk bottles are great toys so we gave it a try and that is Nessie's favorite thing to chew on. She loves to get the cap off and chew on the handle. Just make sure once it is really chewed to throw it away so they don't get any bits they could choke on. Be mindful that puppies loose their baby teeth and that is one reason why they love to chew. We also really like the Kong toys were you can put peanut butter or cheese in for a treat, it also gives them a good challenge. Be watchful that they are not chewing on things you don't want them too such as furniture. Crombie even tried to chew on the corners of our walls! You can purchase sprays that are bitter to the dogs which can help deter them from your furniture. Rawhide is not recommended since once they go soft the puppy may be able to get some off and choke or it can cause stomach and digestive problems.

Your puppy will be hungry when you first get him home so make sure you already have the puppy food you are going to be giving him. Currently we are feeding them the Costco puppy food brand with some wet food mixed in and a little water. This helps soften the dry food so they can handle it a bit better. We are currently feeding the puppies three times a day. You will want to watch how much he eats to make sure he is getting enough. Your puppy will most likely gain 10lbs a month after you get him home for the first few months.

I hope this helps our new owners as they prepair for their new puppies! We are very happy to answer any questions before or after your get your new puppy home so don't hesitate to email or call:)

Puppies 6 Weeks

Yeah the puppies are six weeks and went into their first vet visit and for their first set of vaccines. Our Vet checked their eyes, ears, heart, joints and anything else you can think of, he was very thorough.
Our vet recommended the puppies also go in for the rest of the vaccines at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks.

Here are all the puppies ready to go to their first vet visit. This is a large size travel crate just to give you an idea of what they fit into.

This is our vet checking one of the puppies

They are really full of energy and love playing with mom and dad. I got some fun video of Crombie playing with a puppy. The one you see is the Orange little girl and then towards the end one of the Pink girls joins in. The rest are just running around and exploring.

Puppies Pedigree

I received the Litter Certificate for our puppies the other day from the AKC. This will give you their three generation pedigree.
Again we are unable to change Nessie's name with the AKC since she was registered and whelped in Hungary so don't be alarmed when you see her as Bokorszeri Afra.
All of the families purchasing a puppy will receive one of these litter certificates in their packet that will come with each puppy.

Puppies 5 weeks old!

Wow I can't believe they are five weeks old already!
We started them on puppy food this weekend and they loved it!
It's kind of funny to see their little personalities come out more with how they eat. Some really get in and scarf it down while a few of the others like to take their time. Their little tails go so fast they are so excited while they eat.

I must say raising puppies is hard work. It is so much like having a new baby except instead of just one baby I am constantly worried about eight. You worry about every little thing they are doing. You want to make sure they are each eating enough and moving correctly. When they are asleep I watch to make sure I can see them breathing and even give them a little nudge just to make sure. I don't know of any parent who has not done that! It is also so rewarding. I love to see them grow, they are all turning into white fluff balls. They are so fun to watch play and run around. It is defiantly nerve wracking though!

It has also been such a learning experience on the selling side figuring out payments, contracts, shipping etc....
We currently have five puppies going out of state and two staying in Utah. I really am so excited for the families that will be welcoming these puppies into their homes!

I got a few pictures of the puppies playing. It is so much harder getting pictures of them now that they are on the move constantly!

Hears one nibbling on moms ear

Mr. Light Blue playing with moms tail.
She puts up with a lot:)

I love how Miss Orange looks like she is smiling for the camera

Mr. Light Blue again enjoying his dinner

I can't remember which pup this was who was chewing on Crombie

I love how they play together. Hear are Mr. Red and Mr. Black

This is a video of the puppies first time eating the puppy food. Some had a harder time figuring out the bowl and kept wanting to eat it. You can see their little tails wage which is sooo cute!

The puppies will be getting their vaccines this weekend so we are looking forward to that and will defiantly let you all know how it goes.

Puppies 4 1/2 weeks

Yeah pictures!
Again sorry for the lack of posting pictures this week but hopefully things have finally settled down and we can get back to normal:)

So this is Mr. Green and our last little puppy available. He is the sweetest little guy and very outgoing and playful. He is always one of the first to run up to me when I go out to check on them. He is for sure a people puppy:)

Here is Miss Orange. She is such a fun little puppy. I caught her and Crombie playing the other day and I wish I had my video camera with me it was sooo cute! I will have to try and get Crombie playing with the puppies to show you all. She was also very into the camera. The first picture with her ears back was the first pic I took but when she heard the shutter of my camera she perked right up and was very interested in it.

Mr. Red is still as dashing as ever. He was not as sure of getting his picture taken this time. I think it was because we woke him up from his afternoon nap:)

Mr. Black or AKA Batman as his new family has chosen for him which I LOVE! He is such a chill dog and very easy going. He loves to explore and play with the other pups.

Mr. Blue is also very chill and fun. In the first picture he looks like he could be asleep:) I'm glad I got a pic with his eyes open. He also loves to explore and romp around.

Mr. Light Blue has gotten so big! He is such a funny pup, every time I go out to see them he comes right up to me and wants to nibble on my pant leg. All the puppies are getting their teeth in so we will be starting them on puppy food this next week.

Miss. Hot Pink is such a little princess I would say she is a girly girl:) She is also so spunky and full of energy and loves to run around.

Miss. Pink is turning into a bit of a tom boy. She really gets in and likes to play with the boys and show them how tough she is. She is also very sweet and loves to come up and be held.

And here is Crombie saying hi to Zander. Zander has pink eye (yuck) so I have been keeping him away from the puppies. I don't know if he could spread it to them but I don't want to risk it. I feel bad because he keeps asking to see the puppies:(
This pictrure was taken before the pink eye
